In English, the terms digitization and digitalization are distinguished. Digitization refers to the conversion of an analog information into a digital one, e.g., scanning photos and documents, converting videos or music into digital formats. Digitalization refers to the processing of data and other assets (e.g. organizations) through modern digital technologies. In Slovak language, the term digitalization is usually used for both terms, but considering the current situation, we should distinguish between the terms digitization and digitalization. Digitization is the process of transformation from analog to digital form and is a prerequisite for digitalization, the end result of which is a fundamental change in business models or processes.
Digitalization has had a significant impact on the business world. In the business digitalization means using digital technologies to change the business model. However, it is not just about technologies. They are the pillar on which digitalization is built, but in this case, the equation "more technology, more digitization" does not apply. An important element is their acceptance, their integration into the culture, communication and processes in the organization. The goal is to use digital technologies in the company and support their value, to open up new sources of revenue, and to improve the flow of communication and interaction with customers and employees.
Companies that want to succeed in today's economy and remain competitive in the marketplace must shift their mindset to "digital." It is necessary to embrace the changes that the entire society is going through and take a holistic approach to try to bring your business into the future and online.
