Slovak Telekom and T-Mobile CZ unified and automated their Data Governance processes by implementing Collibra, delivering substantial process digitization through personalization, automation, auditability, and organization-wide data availability in a unified Data Governance management tool.
The project integrated existing metadata sources, automated control processes, and created a robust solution for managing and auditing data assets in GCP.
The challenge
- Fragmented metadata sources: Multiple independent models in SSAS and MSSQL environments without unified management.
- Limited visibility into data relationships between physical and logical models.
- Need to automate governance processes: Role auditing, validations, and notifications required manual intervention.
- Need for cloud scalability: The objective was to move key processes to GCP using the IDA model and streamline management.
The solution
The project combined technical metadata integration with the implementation of Data Governance processes in Collibra.
- Integration of SSAS Tabular models into Collibra: Import of core structures including databases, models, tables, hierarchies, levels, calculated groups, and calculated items. Relationships between columns, levels, calculated items, and measures were also implemented.
- Connection to the physical model: Where the source was defined unambiguously, a relationship to physical tables in MSSQL/FedDWH was created.
- Collibra repository backup: Implemented through DataIngest and dbt into GCP using the IDA model. A weekly snapshot supports recoverability and change tracking.
- Technologies used: Collibra REST/Core API, SSIS for transferring SSAS data, Python for additional transformations, DataIngest + dbt, GCP using the IDA model, MS Fabric, and GitLab CI.
Implementation:
The project was delivered during 2025:
- Q1/2025: Analysis and PoC.
- Q2–Q3/2025: Integration of SSAS Tabular models, import testing, and Collibra API.
- Q3–Q4/2025: Deployment of control processes in Fabric and configuration of notifications and automation.
- End of 2025: Production rollout in GCP using IDA and launch of standardized governance workflows.
Control processes in Fabric:
- Offboarding: automated cleanup of responsibilities after a user leaves.
- Data Product Maintenance: validation and completion of missing attributes.
- Responsibilities Reconciliation: alignment of roles between the domain and assets.
- Version Control: tracking changes at Data Product level and automatically notifying consumers.
